On January 7-9, 2011, about 50 guys from several states and provinces
gathered in River Falls for the
LOL District's annual
Harmony Brigade. We all learned our part to ten difficult
barbershop quartet songs on our own, using sheet music and
high-quality learning tracks, so by the time we first met each other
Friday night, we could sing those songs in quartets and VLQs (very
large quartets) and as a big chorus. We competed in informal quartet
and VLQ contests, and then put on a
benefit concert open to the public Saturday night at a church
in River Falls.
After the concert, we sang a few songs at the afterglow back at UW-River Falls, attended by participants in the "Top Gun" program and the LOL Leadership Academy (formerly "COTS"). And of course there was a lot more singing in hallways, elevators, hotel lobbies, and anywhere four parts were gathered. It was a great weekend! Here are a some photos I took with my FZ50 camera. - Tom Arneberg (toma@arneberg.com), CHIPS Quartet baritone |
